Devastating floods occurred on this date in 1927 in New England. Nearly 15 inches of rain fell over parts of western New England while 8.77 inches of rain fell at Somerset, VT, marking a 24-hour record for the state. The flooding, dubbed "The Great Vermont Flood" claimed 200 lives.
