The Coriolis force is a very important force in meteorology. Even though everything on Earth experiences the effects of Coriolis, it is still very hard to explain. Basically, the force is an effect of motion on a rotating body (such as Earth) and it is one factor that determines wind direction. On this date in 1792, Gustave-Gaspard Coriolis, the first to describe the Coriolis force, was born.
